We took the kids fishing this summer for the first time. Lia was a natural and was casting in no time at all. She caught the first within the first ten minutes we were there, unfortunately it was only a few inches long. Thomas was only 2 and enjoyed casting his "practice fishy" ( get one for your little one online) into the water and reeling it in. Bella learned to cast and reel as well but didn't quite master waiting for the fish to bite. We all had fun helping the kids learn to fish.
It was a lovely warm day, we enjoyed a picnic lunch on the dock just before it started to rain. Lia was the winner that day, she caught 2 small fish, we had to explain that no we could not take them home to be pets ( those pesky laws). We are lucky to have so many beautiful lakes here in Washington and we hope to visit a new one each year to try our luck again.
We stopped on the way home to purchase our fish, because you can't go fishing and not have fish for dinner. We had trout with rice pilaf, green beans and Cole slaw. It's the little things that make life so special, I know the kids will always remember this special day learning to fish with Grandpa Gerry, I know it was one of the highlights of our summer. It brought back so many wonderful memories of fishing with my family when I was a little girl, of course in my mind we always caught fish (I am not sure if reality matches my memory) but mainly I remember laughing, enjoying our picnic lunch, talking to my parents, playing with my siblings and just enjoying the sunshine.
